Activating your account

vCISO requires a Foxx Cyber account. Create one, buy vCISO on foxxcyber.com, open the activation email, choose a password, and set up your authenticator app.

You need a Foxx Cyber account

vCISO requires a Foxx Cyber account. That account is where you buy vCISO and manage its billing, and the same account buys any other Foxx Cyber product. There is no sign-up form inside vCISO itself.

  1. Create a Foxx Cyber account at foxxcyber.com/account/signup, or sign in if you already have one.
  2. Choose vCISO on foxxcyber.com/pricing and complete checkout. The Get started buttons on vciso.foxxcyber.com take you there too.
  3. Your vCISO workspace is created for you, and an email titled Activate your Foxx Cyber vCISO arrives at your Foxx Cyber account's email address.

vCISO has its own sign-in. The password you choose from the activation email, together with your authenticator app, is what you use at vciso.foxxcyber.com. Your Foxx Cyber account password stays the one you use on foxxcyber.com.

Choosing your password

Open the link in the email. It takes you to Choose your password.

  • The link works once and expires after 14 days.
  • Your password needs 12 characters or more, must not contain your name, email, or business name, and must not be one of the usual guesses. The checklist under the field ticks off each rule as you type. A short sentence you will remember works well.
  • Tick the box to agree to the Terms of Service and the Privacy Notice. It ends with the line "The vCISO advises; my business decides."

Click Set password and continue. You land on the sign-in page with the message Your password is set. Sign in to finish setting up.

If the link does not work, or it has expired, email support@foxxcyber.com and we will send a fresh one.

If you did not buy vCISO and the email reached you anyway, ignore it. Nothing happens unless the link is used.

Setting up your authenticator app

Every vCISO account uses an authenticator app as well as a password. It is not optional. Your vCISO holds everything you tell it about your business, so a password on its own is not enough to get in.

An authenticator app is a free app on your phone that shows a fresh six-digit code every thirty seconds. Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, and 1Password all work.

  1. Sign in with your email and the password you just chose.
  2. The Set up your authenticator page shows a QR code and, under it, a key made of letters and numbers.
  3. Open your authenticator app and scan the QR code, or type the key in by hand.
  4. Enter the six-digit code the app now shows, then click Finish setting up.

You are signed in and taken to the conversation page.

The key is shown only once. You do not need to write it down, because if you ever lose your phone, support resets it for you (see Signing in). Just make sure the code is working in your app before you leave the page.

The setup page is only good for a few minutes. If it runs out, you see That took longer than the ten minutes allowed, which is fine. Sign in again and pick up where you left off.

If you are asked to name your business

Your workspace comes with your business already on it. If you ever see Name your business instead, your account has no business on it yet. Type the name, click Continue, and your vCISO takes it from there.
